“The Shaolin Cowboy and the white mule trudged on past the sign, only to find themselves crossing ground so barren that it made the area they just left look lush by comparison.”

If you can take any Tarantino infused dream and have it in book form, Shaolin Cowboy would be that book. One part Pulp, two parts Grindhouse, and a heapful of Penny Dreadfuls, this is the formula for something new yet so familiar. The Shaolin Cowboy Adventure Magazine tales what was special nearly 85 years ago and updates it for the modern audience.

Some of the newer audience members ages 25 and younger may not quite get the tongue-in-cheek humor or the style of book this is. For those who don’t know the format of a pulp magazine, it’s mostly text with illustrated pinups.

The artwork is done with respect to the classic “pulp” style or if you’re a fan Doc Savage, you will instantly recognize the style.  The cover is done by Scott Gustafson and harkens back to the 1950’s novella style. The two written stories have some amazing talents in Geof Darrow and Gary Gianni (respectfully) helping the reader visualize the written word perfectly.

The only downside I can find with this amazing magazine is the price, but of course with the rise of paper and the digital movement, I hope this collection finds an audience fast and gets this long forgotten format a new voice.

The Shaolin Cowboy Adventure Magazine sells for $15.99 (1599 cents on the cover) and is worth picking up.

Coming Soon: Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Ezio Auditore 7″ Action Figure!

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations 7″ Ezio Auditore ships this month!

We’re not exactly quiet about the fact that we love our Assassin’s Creed around here. All throughout the series, we’ve been bringing you figures, flying machines, even a replica of Ezio Auditore’s hidden blade! If it’s a secret, we’ve been doing a lousy job of keeping it.

For the latest in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, we’ve got a brand new sculpt of Ezio. Now with over 35 points of articulation, our Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Ezio Auditore 7″ action figure is set to ship to stores this month in time for the fall season.

A Long Line

The first Revelations Ezio follows up on the success of a slew of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Ezio action figures, including the SDCC Exclusive Eagle Vision Ezio and the Toys ‘R’ Us-only Unhooded Onyx Costume Ezio, and in addition to the über-articulation and incredible game-accurate detail, it comes with the standard extending blades hidden in the sleeves, a crossbow, dagger and sword.

Along with the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Ezio HeadKnocker, this is our first Ezio from the fourth game, so we couldn’t be happier to bring it to you.

Have a look:

Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.

“Hakaiju,” an apocalyptic horror manga series by Shingo Honda, has been adapted into a live-action short film.

The promotional video clip was produced by horror film “Henge” director Hajime Ohata and special effects director Kiyotaka Taguchi.

The video clip is available on the “Henge” official website.

“Hakaiju” is a popular manga series currently running in Akita Publishing Co.’s Gekkan Shonen Champion monthly comic magazine. Spanning seven volumes of manga digests, the manga has sold more than 1 million copies.

The story depicts ferocious monsters that appear out of nowhere in a town. They destroy buildings and prey on people running for their lives.

The live-action short was produced to celebrate the July 11 release of “Henge” on Blu-ray and DVD, and the July 6 release of the seventh volume of “Hakaiju.”

The two directors took 10 days to shoot scenes in Tokyo’s busy Shinjuku district and edit them into the 80-second short.

The project got off the ground after Honda and Ohata met at a theater showing “Henge.” During the event, they shared an enthusiasm to produce a live-action adaptation of “Hakaiju.”

“I wasn’t sure if a live-action adaptation could really be made,” Honda said. “But the video came out so cool, and I am really excited.”
