Diamond Select at C2E2

Diamond Select Toys certainly does get around. New York Toy Fair brought them to the East Coast in February, and San Diego Comic-Con will have them headed to the West Coast in July, but in between they get to spend a fun-filled week in one of their favorite cities, Chicago! The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) will take place from April 26 to 28 this year, and DST will be exhibiting, paneling, freebie-ing… you name it!

At booth #603, DST will have all (well, most) of their upcoming products on display, so you can check them out in person before they reach the stores. They’ll also be giving away free posters, and selling selected items in the company store. Spend $18 and you can build your own Minimate at the Build-a-Minimate station! (Station open after 1:00 each day.)

Not too far away, at booth #1509, you can check out the Minimates Museum, an exhibit of Minimates past and present celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Minimates line. The exhibit will be open during show hours, so stop by, pick up a program and take a trip through mini-history, from Lord of the Rings to The Expendables, and everything in between!

And on Saturday, at 12:15 pm, in Room W470a, DST Marketing Supervisor Zach Oat will talk Minimates with anyone who will listen. He’ll unveil never-before-seen artwork, debut some never-before-seen product and answer some never-before-asked questions! Plus, he’ll give away a prize at the end to one lucky attendee!

Walking Dead Minimates Series 4

Fans of the Walking Dead TV show may not know how the prison storyline will end, but fans of the comic know that it will probably not end well! The fourth assortment of Walking Dead Minimates, based on the long-running comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard, features one of the most hated villains in comic book history, the Governor, as well as some of his closest friends and worst enemies.

Walking Dead Minimates Series 4 re-unites the Governor and his lieutenants with some of the people who hated him the most. The Governor himself comes in a two-pack with his lieutenant Gabe, with whom he stormed the gates of the prison. Michonne, the woman who received the worst of the Governor’s brutality, comes with his accomplice Bruce, as well as a new poncho accessory. Rick’s wife Lori (with baby Judith) comes with a partially flayed Shoulder Zombie, and a variant of that set will replace Lori with the prison doctor and Woodbury defector, Alice.

Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall and includes a variety of interchangeable parts and accessories. All of these figures will be available at comic shops and specialty stores this summer. To find your nearest comic shop, visit comicshoplocator.com!

review: TMNT Color Classics Leonardo

TMNT color classics Leonardo

So what are the color classics you ask? The color classics are taking Eastman and Laird’s classic comics and making them in living color. Does it hinder or does it help the comic? Personally I think it helps bring a new dimension to the comic and the colors aren’t done like its 2013,it just seems to fit nicely. As for the story, it is set on Christmas Eve and stars Leonardo who is out fighting for his life in the middle of a NYC snow storm, while the rest of the turtles are getting Christmas ready with April. It is a great contrast from the mundane silliness and the very real violence of the foot and shredder. This comic is perfectly done (of course it’s about 20 + years old already) reading these color classics makes me remember what it was like reading these comics when they first came out.

If you are a TMNT fan or a vintage comic collector this one shot is a must buy 4/5. I hope that parents who have children who enjoy the new TMNT cartoon will hopefully seek out some comics for their kids to read and this should be on the list.

Living Dead Dolls Presents Universal Monsters: Dracula

Living Dead Dolls Presents Universal Monsters: Dracula

The children of the night…such music they make!- Dracula

Dracula; one of the first Universal Monsters, and hands down the most famous vampire of all time. The king of the vampires is the latest addition to the Living Dead Dolls line.

Damien Glonek, one of the trio who created the Living Dead Dolls says “Universal Monsters are the true foundation of the horror genre.  Each has become a recognized character to people of all ages from all over the world and still seem as popular today as when their movies first came out.  They have started out as Monsters and have become icons.  When the opportunity arose to work on the Universal Monsters I was very excited to give back to the genre that I love so much.”

From his widow’s peak to the hem of his cape, every detail of Dracula has been captured. The Count wears one of the most regal outfits ever produced for a Living Dead Doll; he comes complete with full evening dress, his trademark cape, his famous medallion, his red Carnelian stone ring, and even his watch chain, have been carefully recreated. Special attention has been paid to his hypnotic eyes; they seem to stare into your very soul as one eyebrow arches upwards, beckoning you to your doom.

Living Dead Dolls Count Dracula comes complete in a collector friendly window box featuring art from the famous film. He is available for pre-order online and will be in stores in October 2013.

Mezco Toys is proud to partner with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, to produce toys and vehicles based on the classic 1960’s Batman Classic TV Series.

The Mez-Itz line will feature the likeness of the actors from the series such as Adam West and Burt Ward, famed for their iconic portrayals as the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin.

Mezco’s Mez-Itz line will also debut the Batman Classic TV Series toys, including the Batmobile. While the Batmobile had appeared throughout the Batman comic books, the iteration designed by George Barris for the classic TV series was radically different and quickly became a fan favorite. Batman and Robin both fit in the Mez-Itz Batmobile, as do most other Mez-Itz figures.

“Making figures and vehicles from the classic series is a dream I’ve had for more than 40 years,” says Mezco’s director of Special Projects, Mike Drake. “To finally be able to make that dream a reality is beyond amazing. Mezco is full of Batman fans. We’ll see to it that every classic Batman item we make is filled with as much Zap! Bam! and Pow! as possible.”

Mezco will be producing Mez-Itz not only of Batman and Robin, but also of the Rogues Gallery as well: The Penguin, The Joker, Catwoman and The Riddler. Every Super-Villain needs henchman, so naturally Mezco will also produce The Riddler’s Thug, inspired by the one seen on the original show.

Mezco’s first wave of Batman Classic TV Series products will hit stores in July 2013.
