Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 2 “Welcome to the Club” Review: A Sticky Path

This week’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead titled “Welcome to the Club”, is a much different episode than last week’s premiere. This is because Alicia, Strand, Charlie, and Daniel are in one of Virginia’s communities. The episode is focused on these four characters as they learn to adapt to The Pioneers’ way of living. Here is my review of “Welcome to the Club.”

It is career day for the four characters. But before that happens with them, a group of prisoners are tasked with killing walkers in a storage unit. What sounds easy on paper, is difficult in practice. That is because inside the storage unit, the walkers and the floor is covered with molasses. What I like here, is how the molasses is used during this deadly situation. I also thought it was clever on how the walkers grabbed and devoured the prisoners and that guard too. Sanjay was the only survivor there that survived.

What made me sad, is to see Daniel with memory loss and his mental state. Even though by the end of “Welcome to the Club” Daniel seemed to be in his normal state when he seen Morgan, How we see him before that moment is heartbreaking. He did not remember anything at all. Virginia had him under her complete control and I really felt for Alicia and Strand when they tried to speak with him.

Charlie was the one to finally trigger something in Daniel. When she played the same song that he taught her, I was thinking to myself that he has to come through now. Whether if he was acting or not the entire time, is up for debate.

Dakota is Virginia’s sister. I just also realized that their names are based on the states in this country. So far, I like what we see of Dakota and she proves to Alicia and Strand that she is a valuable asset. But she also slightly gets them both into trouble while they were doing their task. The task for Alicia and Strand, is to clear the walkers that the prisoners could not do. The difference here, is that Virginia told them both if they complete the task, there would be something inside for them. We also got to see what happened if they tried to escape as it happened right infront of them when a prisoner tried to escape. And that is, death.

So not only did Alicia, Strand, Sanjay, Dakota, and Charlie cleared the walkers, they came up with a smart strategy. The action really picked up here and I love those gruesome walker kills. The strongest dialouge on this episode is between Alicia and Strand. They both went back and forth about why they should not take orders from Virginia and lead their own way. Alicia is the voice of reason in this scenario and even her plan about escaping is far better than Strand’s plan. But the truth comes out as Strand secretly made a deal with Virginia.

That deal is for him to give her the map in order for them two to be kept together. This also escalated later on when Strand was given a key from Virginia. Virginia sees a leader in Strand and the first thing Strand did, is reassigned Alicia. This means that the two are splitting up. Strand wanted Alicia to forget who he is from this point on.

I can say that Morgan was not the only one that is in for a change this season. Strand also changed too. Especially when he got Sonjay devoured by walkers later which was part of his plan. Alicia tried to knock some sense into Strand and it did not work at all. Also, bonus points for the scene between Virginia and Dakota. I can tell that sisters around the world will also feel that because you would not want anything to happen to your younger sibbling.

Overall, I like the episode. It reminded me of “The Cell” on The Walking Dead back in season 7. I said this because everyone that is in that sugar factory had to adapt to the working life under The Pioneers including the prisoners. And on “The Cell”, Daryl seen first hand what is life under The Saviors like. Just like that episode on The Walking Dead, there are rules everyone has to follow and there are consiquences if they do not follow them. So far, the anthology structure is working. Morgan appearing at the end of the episode makes it connected to the ending of the last episode and I hope to see that in later episodes of this season.

Next week’s episode titled “Alaska” is focused on Dwight and Al. You do not want to miss that one!

Interview: Kjersti Long on her New Single “Not Your Princess”

Kjersti Long has started her music career at an early age. She was nine years old when she wrote her first song “Rollercoaster” as it was about her personal struggles with anxiety. Kjersti also released her first album Stronger Than You Think I Am a year after she headlined The Bitter End in New York City.

At that time, the future was bright for her and it still is. The talented singer also headlined many iconic venues across the united states such as The Apollo Theater, The Velour, House of Blues, The Delancy, and The Stone Pony. It would take a massive amount of years to headline those world famous venues, but she did it.

With the support of her family, friends, and fans, Kjersti will go very far in this industry. Her passion really shines through her music and her great personality. Kjersti Long also has hobbies outside of music such as horseback riding and reading books. As the time goes by, Kjersti will have plenty of stories to tell through her music and social media.

Her new single “Not Your Princess” tells a unique story and Kjersti Long explains it all on this exclusive interview. Also to note, there are two versions of this song. One is pop themed, and the other is rock themed. Kjersti also goes over the decision to produce two versions of “Not Your Princess” as well.

The Walking Dead World Beyond Season 1, Episode 2 “The Blaze of Glory” Recap

The Walking Dead: World Beyond returns for their second episode this week. After CRM massacred Campus Colony which has a little over 9000 residents, Iris, Hope, Silas, and Elton go on a adventure to find Iris and Hope’s father. With that out of the way, here is my review of “The Blaze of Glory.”

What I like most about the episode, is Felix’s backstory. Before the apoclapse, he was living with his parents. But his parents did not accept his sexuallity at all. This got really heated when he came out to them and that they kicked him out of his home. Felix also struggles with his memories about this and when he went back to his home with Huck later in the episode, he seen his parents as walkers.

Now how often he goes to his former house to see this is a question in the air, but I thought the way they had his scenes blend in with his younger self was really good. It added to Felix’s mental state at the time when he and Huck were opening up to eachother. Also in his backstory, there is one scene that got my curious mind open during the scene at the start of the apoclapse. When he was running and trying to call his mom, the airstrikes happened. This also happened on The Walking Dead back in season 1. It made me wonder how many other cities had endured this at the start.

Nico Tortorella did great with the character Felix on this episode and he is slowly becoming my favorite on World Beyond.

If there is a group of people that are not prepared to take on the outside world, it is Hope, Iris, Silas, and Elton. I know that it will take time and that they are teenagers in the apoclapse. How much they learned while they were being taught by Felix has not been put to use yet for them. Their inexperience is really showing when they encountered empties. But I believe that they will be more experienced down the road. But it was also good that they acted in stealth mode to avoid the empties later on until the action begun.

What i found some resemblence of normal teenagers on this episode, is when they played monopoly in the treehouse. I know that World Beyond is supposed to have a dark setting, but once in a while, we have to remember that the characters are young. Monopoly can be played by all ages, but I think it works here for the four characters. A scene like that cannot happen on Fear or on the main show because it would really not fit the same situation. Also, bonus points for that walker taking a bowling ball hit!

Towards the end of “The Blaze of Glory”, I was puzzled by the last few minutes. And I think it is because I have family members who are firefighters that might think the same thing as me. Why would all four of them decide to sleep in an area with all of that heavy smoke from the tire fire? For any normal person at that age, they would have been dead or severly suffocating being near all of that smoke for no longer than an hour. Watching all four of them not even having breathing problems at all the whole time when they went to that area is just not realistic.

Overall, this episode is a slower than last week, but I enjoyed most of the character development from everyone. Felix’s scenes with Huck and his flashbacks are a huge highlight. I am looking forward to next week’s episode.

The Best Moments From Fear The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 1

Fear The Walking Dead returned tonight to kick off the sixth season. If you recall, the fifth season ended in a cliffhanger that was panned by critics. We got our question right away on the status of Morgan Jones. And that is, he is alive!

“The End is the Beginning” is the title of this episode and it matches how we view Morgan during this episode. With that out of the way, Here are the best moments from today’s episode.

The Callback to “Days Gone Bye”

I noticed this good easter egg as soon as it happened. Morgan walking into the abandoned town mirrors when Rick Grimes first entered Atlanta on The Walking Dead. The atmonsphere and mood from both scenes are exactly the same, except that Morgan was badly injured in this sense. Bonus points for Morgan getting that gun from the police car because that had to be a slight nod to Rick Grimes. I will add more to this on the final moment.

Everything with Emile

Emile was great on this episode. Actor Demetrius Grosse played a very convincing villain. Although he was killed at the end of this episode, he will remain as one of my favorite characters on Fear regardless that he only lasted one episode. He is the bounty hunter for Virginia and he did not hesitate to take the heads off of people with his big boardaxe. I just wish that he lasted much longer. I also liked the fact that he took down that water tower that Morgan slept in. Must have been a bad wakeup call for him.

The Scenery

I love the cinematography throuought the episode. It really brought out the mood that this was going to be like a western film from the last century. Mix that in with the apoclapse, you are in for a treat on the way most of those outdoor scenes are filmed.

Sending a Message to Virginia

I found this funny that Virginia wanted Morgan’s head in a box. But what she wanted, did not turn out excactly what she hoped. She did get a nice box with Morgan’s name on it. But the head in there was Emile and Morgan sent her a clear message that they will see eachother again.

“Morgan Jones is Dead”

This is one of the best lines I have heard Morgan say and Lennie James really delievered this line very well. It signifies that the old Morgan is done and the new Morgan is here. No more “Clear” or “All Life is Precious” Morgan as those days are far behind him. To me, it is the reinvention of the character and he did that in a life or death situation.

Which is why I brought up the police car as Rick Grimes life as a sherif was long behind him the second he entered Atlanta as to Morgan when he entered the small town. When this line is heard, you think back to this episode to see the changes of the character. Issac tried to bring out that old Morgan, but he is “dead” now forever. This is a memorable line that will be remembered and Virginia now has to watch out for him.

This is a really good episode to kick off the sixth season. I know that it will take some time to gain back the interest that was lost due to the season five finale. But this episode is worth the wait. Fear The Walking Dead is back on AMC Network and it is a spectacular ride!
