North American Season One Releases in 2012

New York, NY – In 1997, the Digimon franchise was launched, evolving from a popular digital toy to an adventure-packed feature film, multiple TV series and more.  Fast forward 17 years and the Japanese retro creation has continued to build on its international popularity with over 100 global licensees and its first official U.S. DVD releases from Flatiron Film Company, a label of Cinedigm (NASDAQ:CIDM), in partnership with Toei Animation.  THE OFFICIAL DIGIMON ADVENTURE SET: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON ($79.95srp), an 8-disc collection featuring all 50 complete, unedited episodes and DIGIMON ADVENTURE: VOLUME 2 ($19.95srp), a specially-priced 3-disc set including 18 full-length episodes from Season 1, follow the first Flatiron releases in 2012. Both sets are the English versions from the U.S. broadcast and will be available to the far-reaching fan-base and new generation of viewers on March 26, 2013.

For the uninitiated, there are five complete seasons in the Digimon Franchise (not including the sixth, soon to launch as “Digimon Fusion” on Nickelodeon later in 2013), but fans consider Seasons 1 & 2 to be the original, classic episodes. It is these episodes that have never been officially released in the U.S. until Flatiron unleashed them in all their digital glory. Season 1 found seven kids who, while at summer camp, discover seven “Digivices” which transported them to a strange digital world. It’s here that these “DigiDestined” befriended Digimon — short for Digital Monsters — who were born to defend their world from various evil forces. After learning they have the ability to help their new Digimon friends “digivolve” into different monsters and fight as a team, the kids form a pact and hope the digi beings can ultimately help them find their way home.

THE OFFICIAL DIGIMON ADVENTURE SET: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is the direct sequel to Season 1, and takes place four years after the original series.  Commonly referred to as Digimon Zero Two, it finds most of the original characters now in junior high school, with the Digital World supposedly secure and peaceful.  However, a new evil has appeared in the form of the Digimon Emperor, a human just like the DigiDestined, who has been enslaving all  Digimon. Four new children — Davis, Yolei, Cody, and Ken — are chosen and along with T.K. and Kari, make up the new generation of DigiDestined, charged with saving the Digital World.  Together they journey back to the Digital World to battle the villainous Emperor and free all the Digital Monsters from his control.  For the first time ever, THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is unleashed onto digital and DVD and will include all 50 exciting adventures never before released in North America.  Fans of the series will also thrill to bonuses including a full-color 36-page character guide book and a gallery featuring more than 40 villian Digimon sketches.

Also being released is the 3-disc set DIGIMON ADVENTURE: VOLUME 2.  Featuring 18 episodes across Story Arc 3 in Season 1, this specially-priced offering continues the incredible tales of the seven children — Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, and T.K.- forced to battle Myotismon, a villain who wants to prevent the group from activating greater powers by capturing the eighth DigiDestined child from the Real World.  Using a dimensional gate, Myotismon and the kids journey between Worlds, attacking and defending as they go. Finally back in the Digital World, Myotismon is defeated and the eighth DigiDestined child is revealed.  But just as the kids think their job is finished, they look up to see the Digiworld upside down and realize they must fix things in the Digital World before the Real World can return to normal!

Engaging long-time fans and uncovering the next generation of Digimon viewers, these DVD and digital releases at long last deliver one of the longest-running Japanese anime properties to animation fans everywhere.

MiniMates: IronMan 3 “suit up” and “Extremis Soldier”

The latest Iron Man 3 trailer has everyone talking about what kind of products we’ll see on toy store shelves as the movie’s release date approaches. And while they still need to keep some of their figures under wraps, Diamond Select Toys has unveiled two more Marvel Minimates based on the film!

The first, “Suit Up” Tony Stark, will be one of four Toys “R” Us-exclusive Minimates, and will come packaged with a mystery figure to be revealed later. He is shown wearing parts of the Mark 42 armor, which can be summoned and controlled via mental link in the film, as seen in the trailer. The boots and gauntlets will be removable, and Tony will also come with regular hands and shoes.

The second is an Extremis Soldier, who comes packaged with Iron Patriot and will be available at comic shops and specialty stores as well as at Toys “R” Us. These super-strong operatives are shown receiving the Extremis treatment in the trailer, and the Minimate will come with a removable vest, a pistol, and interchangeable hair pieces to create different looks.

The other Minimates that have been revealed are Iron Man Mark 42 with The Mandarin (shared between specialty and Toys “R” Us), the specialty-exclusive War Machine with Maya Hansen, and the specialty exclusive Cowboy Disguise Tony Stark with Aldrich Killian. Three Toys “R” Us figures remain unrevealed.

Minimates are 2-inch mini-figures, each with various interchangeable parts and accessories, and the Iron Man 3 assortments will be out in April. To pre-order the specialty assortment, contact your local comic shop or your favorite specialty toy retailer!

retro video game review : Zelda II:the adventure of Link

Zelda II- THE ADVENTURE IF LINK REVIEW

Julian cannon back again for a Retro video game review ..this time it is back to the NES era. Zelda II THE ADVENTURE OF LINK.

According to the Zelda timeline released in late 2011.. this game followes the first branch (there are 3 branches) after ocarina of time and it is the final game in the first branch and the sequel to the original legend of Zelda for the NES.. the first timeline is what could happen if link does not defeat ganon in the final battle of ocarina of time.

The first thing you’ll realize when you start an actual game is that your main character, Link, can’t move up or down as he can in the prequel — instead he’s been blessed with the action-game duet of Crouching and Jumping. If you’d played the original Zelda first, you might be wondering, What’s going on here? Then you’d read the instruction booklet… and still wonder, what’s going on here? That’s right kiddies. Zelda II has shifted gameplay focus from the previous overhead view style to a more common side-scrolling style. There’s still the old overhead view, but there is little to no action involved during this view — instead, it acts as your map-traversing view, which I’ll elaborate on later. But for all of your battle needs, you’ll be spending time in the side-scrolling world. While some may be disappointed in the sudden shift of gameplay, I found it to be an added challenge, and got a kick out of it. In the original Zelda, Link could “throw his sword” the entire length of the screen when his life was at full. This time around, however, the sword blast (a) has shrunk to a puny size and (b) travels a much shorter distance, dissipating within two or three of Link’s body lengths horizontally. In addition to the shortened range, you must now learn to be adept with Link’s shield. The shift from overhead to sidescrolling action has left Link’s legs vulnerable to crouching attacks, and you must crouch to prevent Link from having his knees cut up. Of course, crouching leaves his head open, so you can imagine what would happen when you get into an intense sword fight. But that’s part of the fun in Zelda II — the immense tension that builds up when battling dreaded IronKnuckles with shields, capable of fighting at your skill level, hitting high and low in random patterns. While stabbing in the air, trying to hit your mark and get past its shield, you also must keep the warrior from penetrating your defenses, and you end up playing a hectic game of Stand-Crouch-n-Stab. The intensity level of Zelda II’s battles is the source of this game’s addictive fun factor.

However, missing from Zelda II is the vast usable inventory that Link carried in the prequel. In its stead are automatically used items, magic spells and fighting techniques for Link to search and find during his travels. Items such as the Candle and the Power Glove make their returns, but are used in different fashions. The Candle automatically lights up a dimmed area, for example, and obtaining the Power Glove turns Link’s attacks into block-crushing blows. The interesting spells and techniques, however, make the sacrifice of the large usable inventory perhaps justifiable. In addition to stabbing and poking left and right, Link eventually gains the ability to jump and stab both downwards and upwards ( a move that was eventually carried over to the super smash bros. Series)

The graphics are decent, less colorful than the original Zelda but more detailed and larger in general. Link and his enemies now stand taller, at more realistic proportions, as opposed to the old squishy deformed status of old. Enemies sport certain color schemes, indicating their strength, much like the original Zelda. The palaces also have different color schemes, and tend to appear a bit on the monocrhomatic side. However, you’ll see different columns, bricks (for the walls), headpieces portruding from walls, and statues of ironknuckles scattered about. Enemies stand out from backgrounds well enough for you to battle effectively (at least, enemies that aren’t meant to be camoflauged). The overhead map shows very simplistic yet clear definitions of mountains, plains, forests, desert, and roads.

As a result of the high difficulty, the game can take up to 14 hours to beat. Consider: you have seven palaces to conquer. Four life containers to find. Four Magic containers to find. 8 levels to build, in each stat. Tasks to complete, techniques and spells to learn. Unless you’re really good, you’ll find yourself spending somewhere around half an hour to an hour on each palace, an hour or so on Death Mountain, a couple of hours level building, etc. Either that, or this game reviewer is pretty bad with his ninja-gaming skills. It’s a tough game, and if you love a challenge, dust off that NES and get to work on this cartridge

Also new to this game is the debut of dark/shadow link. He is not that hard as he was in ocarina of time, but the battle is worth it considering that he is the final boss of this game

n the end, the completely different system of Zelda II’s gameplay didn’t bother me. I found it a refreshing change and a challenging experience. I did not know that this game existed until the Zelda collection came out in 2003 for the Nintendo gamecube. The ability to jump and defend with more precision is welcome, and all the while the game manages to retain the heavy adventure aspect that we’ve come to expect from any Zelda game released. Zelda II: The Adventures of Link, is a sometimes frustrating but overall very fun experience.

Gameplay :7

Graphics: 7.5

Diamond Select Announces Marvel Select Action Figure, Minimates for ‘The Wolverine’

The Avengers. X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Amazing Spider-Man. The Marvel cinematic universe is constant source of great characters and costumes for the Minimates mini-figure and Marvel Select action figure lines from Diamond Select Toys. This year three films based in the Marvel Universe will make it into Select form, and while all three films are highly anticipated, one has been shrouded in secrecy, leaving fans to only guess at what toys the film might bring. But now DST has unveiled their newest Select figure, for 20th Century Fox’s The Wolverine, and announced an assortment of Minimates, as well!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

While the movie-based line-up of Marvel Minimates Series 52 is still top-secret, we can say that the 7-inch action figure, sculpted by Gentle Giant, is due out this fall and depicts Wolverine in a look straight out of the film. The figure features 16 points of articulation as well as three interchangeable heads and six hands. The figure also comes with a sword and a detailed display base in display-ready Select packaging, with movie art on the shelf reference panel.

JULIUS CAESAR-BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH

March 15 th is a notoriously bad day for the future ruler of Rome- so fans of “Spartacus: War of the Damned” should watch tonight’s episode with particular interest to see what may happen to Gaius Julius Caesar (portrayed by Todd Lasance) as he continues his battle against Spartacus and the rebels.

There are only 4 episodes remaining until the “Spartacus” series finale.

Episode 307: MORS INDECEPTA

9pm ET/PT on STARZ

Their forces pinned in on a snowbound, impassable ridge, Spartacus and Crixus come into conflict over the method of escape. Crassus discovers it increasingly difficult to control the actions of those closest to him.

Enjoy this teaser below, which includes some spoiler action in future episodes

Caesar played by Todd Lasance

Todd Lasance is an Australian actor who can be seen in the lead role of Quick Lamb in “Cloudstreet.” His performance earned him a 2012 AACTA Award nomination for Best Guest or Supporting Actor in a Television Drama. He also starred in the popular: “Underbelly – Tell Them Lucifer Was Here,” “The Great Mint Swindle,” and “Brothers in Arms.” He won the 2009 TV Week Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor in a Television Series for his role as Aden in “Home & Away.” Todd’s other television credits include “McLeod’s Daughters,” “Blue Water High,” and “Blackjack – Ghost.” He can also be seen in the Fool’s Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson.

Few names in history command the power and respect that Caesar’s does. With a noble lineage sired from Venus herself, and Romulus, the exalted founder of Rome, it was his

birthright to rule…and he knows it. Arrogant and intelligent, but with fighting skills to rival those of a gladiator, Caesar is never one to be underestimated. Yet despite his

heritage, and his formidable skills as both warrior, tactician, and commander of legions, he lacks the wealth to see his ambitions play out; wealth that Marcus Crassus has in

abundance. And so, seeing opportunity for both to advance within Rome, they join forces with one aim – to bring death to Spartacus and his rebel army.
