Aaron Conley Wins the 2014 Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: San Diego, CA – Artist Aaron Conley won the 2014 Russ Manning Newcomer Award at the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, held on Friday, July 25 at Comic-Con International. Conley is the artist The Sabretooth Swordsman, published by Dark Horse Comics. Former Manning Award recipient Jeff Smith (BONE) presented the award.
The Manning Award has been given out annually at the San Diego Comic-Con since 1982. It is presented to a comics artist who, early in his or her career, shows a superior knowledge and ability in the art of creating comics. It is named for Russ Manning, the artist best known for his work on the Tarzan and Star Wars newspaper strips and the Magnus, Robot Fighter comic book. Russ was a popular guest at the San Diego convention in the 1970s.
The first recipient of the award was former Manning assistant Dave Stevens. Other past recipients include Jan Duursema, Steve Rude, Scott McCloud, Art Adams, Eric Shanower, Dan Brereton, Jeff Smith, Gene Ha, Alexander Maleev, Goran Sudzuka, Eric Wight, David Petersen, Cathy Malkasian, Eleanor Davis, Marion Churchland, and Tyler Crook.

DARK HORSE DELUXE GRANTED LICENSE TO MANUFACTURE REPLICA SHIPS AND VEHICLES FROM THE HALO FRANCHISE!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SAN DIEGO, CA – It was announced during Dark Horse’s “The Art of Video Games” panel at this year’s Comic Con International that Dark Horse would develop and manufacture a line of replicas based on the ships and vehicles which have appeared in the multi-million selling video game franchise, “Halo®!”
Furthering the arrangement between 343 Industries and Dark Horse, which has to date, produced two blockbuster comics series with canonical storylines written by writers from the video game franchise, this news is sure to excite gamers and collectors alike!
The product category was created in 2005 with the massively successful line of ships from Joss Whedon’s “Serenity,” which was soon followed by a popular line based on Bioware’s “Mass Effect” series, to great success and the unanimous approval of gamers, collectors, and comic fans!
“We are excited to be working with the team at 343 Industries,” Dark Horse product development head David Scroggy said. “We have already had some fruitful planning meetings. We are discovering we have a similar vision toward crafting a well thought-out program of ship and vehicle replicas that will resonate with the Halo community.”

The complete Corto Maltese will published in English for the first time! Shadow Show
IDW announced a 5-issue series of comic-book adaptations of the prose anthology Shadow Show, a tribute to the work of the incomparable Ray Bradbury. Shadow Show #1 starts with the haunting and melancholy “By The Silver Water of Lake Champlain,” written by Joe Hill (Locke & Key) and adapted by Jason Ciaramella(The Cape) with art by Charles Paul Wilson III (Wraith) and a gorgeous cover by Locke & Key co-creator Gabriel Rodriquez. Issue 2 will see Neil Gaiman’s “The Man Who Forgot Ray Bradbury,” brought to life with artist Maria Fröhlich, and artist Eddie Campbell will tackleAudrey Niffenegger’s “Backward In Seville.” Other Shadow Showstories to be included are Harlan Ellison’s “Weariness,” Dave Eggers’ “Who Knocks?” and Alice Hoffman’s “Conjure” with accompanying artists to be announced.

Announced earlier this year, Rovio and Hasbro have teamed up two beloved properties in Angry Birds and The TRANSFORMERS! Diamond Select Toys Partners with Nickelodeon to Create New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Products
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are more popular today than ever before. The newest animated series on Nickelodeon is beloved by new and longtime fans alike, creating a diverse audience hungry for new stories, media and merchandise. With that audience in mind, Nickelodeon has partnered with Diamond Select Toys (DST) to create a similarly diverse array of toys and collectibles for fans of the hit franchise, with the first products scheduled to debut at the 2014 Comic-Con International in San Diego.
“The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are one of those brands that any company would love to work on,” says Diamond Select Toys president Chuck Terceira. “Not just because it’s so popular today, but because it’s such a long-lived property, with distinctly different incarnations of the Turtles and their colorful supporting characters stretching back to the late 1980s. Plus, it’s just a heck of a lot of fun. They’re turtles who fight ninjas, robots, and talking brains. What’s not to love?”
The depth of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise allows us to continue to create new products that will resonate with both new and loyal fans, said Manuel Torres, Senior Vice President, Global Toys and Publishing, Nickelodeon Consumer Products. Comic-Con International in San Diego, which runs from July 24-28, will see the first physical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles products from Diamond Select, two translucent Minimates mini-figures of Leonardo and Michelangelo. These products will be handed out for free (while supplies last) daily during the convention at the Diamond Select Toys booth (#2607) and Nickelodeon booth (#4113), respectively.
Products from several different categories will begin to hit stores in September, including:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Minimates Series 1: The cast of the animated series has been transformed into a series of 2 -inch block figures as part of the wide-ranging Minimates brand. Each figure in the line features interchangeable parts as well as their trademark weapons. Characters include the four Turtles, April O’Neil, Shredder, Foot Soldiers, Foot-Bot, Kraang and Exo-Armor Kraang and are available in blind bags and two-packs. Sold at comic shops, specialty stores, Kmart, Sears and Toys “R” Us.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vinyl Bust Banks: The four turtles will be re-created from the waist-up as full-color vinyl money banks. Striking action poses with their trademark weapons, each 7 inch bust is based on 3D data from the animated series, and will feature collectible-quality sculpting and paint, as well as a coin slot and access door. Sold at comic shops, specialty stores and Toys “R”Us.
Michelangelo Metal Bottle Opener: A classic image of Michelangelo enjoying a slice of pizza, taken from promotional artwork for the 1987 cartoon series, has been turned into a 3D metal bottle opener, with magnets on the back so it can be hung on any metal surface. Sold at comic shops and specialty stores.
