Marvel vs Attack on Titan

Here come the guardians

image

the “Marvel/Attack On Titan” crossover have finally emerged, including the news that The Guardians of the Galaxy will also take part in the tale.

Through Anime News Network, we now know that the Marvel Universe/Anime mashup will feature The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, Female Titan, Colossal Titan, Armored Titan, and more in a New York City-based story. Past artwork has confirmed that Spider-Man will also participate in the story.

Details on the story’s creative muscle have also surfaced. Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama will provide the “Scenario” (which we assume is the plot), Marvel’s Senior Vice President of Creative & Creator Development C.B. Cebulski will provide the “Breakdown” (which we assume is the actual scripting), and artist Gerardo Sandoval will provide the art. Marvel’s Executive Editor Tom Brevoort edited the series, with fellow Marvel editor Jake Thomas assisting. In an introduction to the comic story, Cebulski teased that a major Titan characters could die in the crossover, saying that “Nothing is sacred.”

The issue hits shelves tomorrow, as a special feature inside the latest issue of Japanese pop culture magazine, Brutus. The story will be published in English, with Japanese translations. We don’t know if the story will be published in the North American comics market, but hopefully it’s just a matter of time.

Review: The Carol Burnett Show Box Set

By Robert  Greenwood

It isn’t often that we get a really great collection of a series that has lasted as long as The Carol Burnett show did. Even less, all the hours of extra content that is provided.

Before I jump into this collection, let me explain who Carol Burnett is (just in case you may not know). Born on April 26, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas, Carol Burnett became popular through television guest appearances and specials before receiving her own comedy-variety program, The Carol Burnett Show, in 1967. The show ran for 11 seasons. Burnett has also appeared in a number of feature films and on Broadway. She published her autobiography, One More Time, in 1986. In 2013, she became the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, one of the most respected awards given to the creative minds who influence American culture with their art.

Growing up in the 80s, I was privileged to watched a series called Carol Burnett and Friends. This syndicated series was edited from the original broadcast of The Carol Burnett Show.
To this very day, it is still one of the funniest sketch comedy serials to have ever aired on American television.
It made household names out of great performers like Tim Conway and Harvey Corman. It was also where we first were introduced to Vickie Lawrence’s iconic character Mama.

This massive collection has 50 hours of The Carol Burnett Show as well as 20 hours of bonus features. What makes this collection a must own is the hours of bonus material.

Seeing Carol on set with icons like Sid Caesar and Lucille Ball is ground breaking and funny as the day it aired. Sketch comedy shows to this very day need to thank Carol Burnett for what her show paved the way for.

This is a perfect collection for anyone who was a fan or grew up on the show. It is a great Christmas present and is something every house hold should have in their DVD library

If a negative can be said about this collection its the lack of outtakes that we have all seen online. Other than that, this collection is pretty much perfect.

I give The Carol Burnett Show box set a 5 out of 5 and it is sure to make everyone screaming in a Tarzan voice!

BRUCE CAMPBELL TO STAR AS TITLE CHARACTER, ASH

Beverly Hills, Calif. – November 10, 2014 – Starz announced today the greenlight of the network’s next original series, the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead. The project reteams the original filmmakers, director Sam Raimi, with longtime producing partner Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell.

The STARZ Original series officially titled “Ash Vs. Evil Dead” will be 10 half-hour episodes.  Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

“Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on ‘Spartacus,’ and we are thrilled to be back in business with them,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz.  “With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving.”

Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga.  With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it,” said Sam Raimi.

“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide – it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” said Bruce Campbell.

“STARZ has always been a great creative partner and we are excited to be working with them on this project,” said Robert Tapert.

Raimi will direct the first episode.  “Ash Vs. Evil Dead” was written by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell) and Tom Spezialy (“Chuck,” “Reaper,” “Desperate Housewives”).  Sam Raimi will also serve as executive producer, along with Rob Tapert (Evil Dead, “Spartacus,” Xena: Warrior Princess”) and Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”).  Ivan Raimi will Co-Executive Produce and Aaron Lam (“Spartacus”) will serve as producer.

The original Evil Dead film followed Ash and his friends who travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release demons intent on possessing the living.  The film became an international success and is critically lauded to this day as one of the best horror movies of all time.  It also spawned a media franchise, including two sequels, as well as video games and comic books and a recent reboot that grossed $97 million worldwide.

“Ash Vs. Evil Dead” project was packaged by CAA and Craig Jacobson at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.  Marta Fernandez will serve as the executive in charge at STARZ.

The series will air on STARZ in 2015.

Starz will retain all domestic and international multiplatform rights including television, home entertainment, and digital.

Top 15 most controversial art paintings of all time

Paintings can catch an audience attention within a second when they first lay eyes on them. When they do, they can either give good feedback or bad but there are many paintings that can offend people that will make them turn away. Today I am counting down the top 15 most controversial art paintings of all time. Be warned because this is for mature audiences only so if you do not want to take a look, I advise you to turn away now. Every painting, I will give a brief description to why they are controversial. Now let’s start the countdown.

15. One Nation Under Socialism by Jon McNaughton (2012)

IMG_2587.JPG

One of the most modern paintings on this list, this painting by Jon McNaughton has been very controversial because it puts U.S. President Barack Obama in a bad light. This painting shows the U.S. president burning the constitution of the United States while pointing at the flame.

14. Burial at Ornans by Gustav Courbet (1850)

IMG_2588.JPG

The Burial at Ornans is considered one of the turning points of French Art during the 19th century. It basically portrays a funeral scenario, which was inspired by the funeral of the uncle of Courbet in Ornans. This larger than life representation was considered offensive by the public and many critics because of its intense expression of grief.

13. The Guitar Lesson by Balthasar Klossowski de Rola (1934)

view image here NSFW

In this painting, Polish-French painter De Rola depicted young girls in several erotic positions. It sparked controversies because of its erotic nature, both among older women and young girls. This painting shows an old woman with a young girl on her lap, pulling her genitals like a guitar.

12. Self-Portrait by Albrecht Dürer (1500)

IMG_2590.JPG

This self-portrait was created at a time when northern Europe was already starting to adopt Renaissance art. It became highly controversial because the position of Durer was supposed to be the position of Christ. In this painting, Durer was facing the viewer and has his other hand right at the middle of his chest, as if offering a blessing. This was found blasphemous by the Catholic Church and the public.

11. Olympia by Edouard Manet (1863)

view image here NSFW

Olympia by Edouard Manet features a female nude as its subject and is said to be reminiscent of the La Maja Desnuda masterpiece of Goya. The self-assured prostitute depicted in this painting is considered a form of vulgarity by many, especially because the nudity is very brightly stressed through the use of light colors.

10. The Gross Clinic by Thomas Eakins (1875)

IMG_2592.JPG

Painted by Thomas Eakins, The Gross Clinic was first submitted to an exposition but was rejected because of its gruesomeness. This painting became highly controversial because of its odd representation, which involved a sexually vague patient and a mother sitting beside him/her. The painting was also spattered with blood.

9.The Rape by René Magritte (1945)

view image here NSFW

Painted by the famed Belgian artist in 1945, The Rape both looks and sounds like a violation, however political the painting might be. Appearing like a portrait, the painting shows the face of a woman but instead of the familiar features, her eyes have been replaced by breasts, her nose by a belly button and her mouth by her pubis. Utilizing the ideas of Surrealism and a sense of metaphor in tandem, the painting seems to offer up a harsh opinion of how men might see women, particularly destined, as they were at that time, by their anatomy.

8. The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living by Damien Hirst (1991)

IMG_2594.JPG

Never one to shy away from controversy, Hirst financed by Charles Saatchi arranged for a Tiger Shark to be caught of the coast of Queensland Australia and shipped over to the UK. Costing some £50,000 to catch and preserve the beast in a giant glass and steal box, he wrote on the on the technical specifications of the painting; Tiger shark, glass, steel, 5% formaldehyde solution, 213 x 518 x 213 cm. Upon its unveiling, in 1992, The Sun called it “£50,000 for fish without chips”, art critic Robert Hughes blamed Hirst directly for the art market’s “cultural obscenity” and animal rights groups attacked Hirst’s use of a living animal for the purpose of art. Needless to say, Hirst sold the shark for millions.

7. The Prophet by Cedric Chambers (2013)

IMG_2597.JPG

This painting by Cedric Chambers has sparked controversies because of its depiction of Jesus Christ being carried by Darth Vader, with images of the Twin Towers at the background. This painting was found offensive by at least three parties, including the Roman Catholic Church, the fans of Star Wars and New Yorkers.

6. Virgin of the Rocks by Leonardo Da Vinci (between 1483-1486)

IMG_2598.JPG

An painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Virgin of the Rocks currently hangs at the Louvre and has been a major source of controversy since it was introduced. This painting basically depicts the Immaculate Concepcion, which the Roman Catholic Church finds offensive because Mary and Jesus Christ do not have halos.

5. Madame X by John Singer (1884)

IMG_2599.JPG

This portrait of Madame X was made to depict the infamous adulterous woman of the French society named Virginie Amelie Avegno Gautreau. It spurred controversy due to suggestive pose of the subject which was described as self-centered, arrogant, and vulgar. Such flaunting was simply not done by women of social standing. This painting is currently on display in Manhattan, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

4.The Enigma of William Tell by Salvador Dali (1933)

view this image here NSFW

This weird, shocking and offensive painting by Salvador Dali is considered one of the most unusual paintings that could ever be exhibited in a museum. This painting depicts Russian communist revolutionary Vladimir Linen so outrageously that event the founder of surrealism himself sought to destroy it.

3. Sick Bacchus by Caravaggio (1593)

IMG_2596.JPG

Sick Bacchus features as its subject a pale figure with blue lips which closely resembles someone with a sexually transmitted disease called syphilis. By the time Caravaggio painted this, he himself was suffering from the disease because of his multiple partners. Many found this painting offensive because it symbolizes sexual liberation.

2. The Death of Marat by Jacques Louis David (1793)

IMG_2600.JPG

This famous and controversial painting was created by Jacques Louis David; a French revolutionary leader. What made this painting so offensive to observers at that time was that it depicted the painter himself dead in his bath tub. This painting is currently exhibited in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Belgium.

1. The Origin of the World by Gustave Courbet (1866)

This bold painting (censored due to graphic material) by Gustave Courbet depicts graphical yet realistic eroticism in an effort to protest against academic paintings and their smooth, idealised nudes.

Game Previews: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD

http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140611153736/finalfantasy/images/c/c6/FF_Type-0_HD.pngI got the chance to finally try final Fantasy Type-0 at an Square Enix event before NYC Comic Con and it was worth the 3 year wait. Originally released for the PlayStation Portable in 2011 for Japan only, this title will finally see an release to the western market (in this case, the United States) in March 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game takes placehttp://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/final-fantasy-type-0/4/4e/Ff_type_0_class_zero.png

on the planet Orience, which is torn apart by a long-standing war. Its story involves 14 characters, each with distinct personalities, powers and weapons, recounting their trials at a time of war. You can only control 3 characters at a time on screen similar to Final Fantasy XII. Also, just like FF XII, you can decide who can be the party leader. The combat in Final Fantasy Type-0 is party-based. Instead of navigating through menus, actions are mapped to the face buttons for quick access and this feature to me is the fastest way of changing menus in any Final Fantasy video game to date. The 3 characters for this demo that I have used are Ace, Seven and Rem Tokimiya. Ace’s primary weapon are cards, Rem’s primary weapon are daggers, and Seven’s primary weapon is a whip. Each of the characters can also use magic and items to deal damage or heal themselves as well.

http://i.imgur.com/AGHlGjO.jpg

Enemies contain an essence called phantoma, which powers your spells, and killing them releases it. Standing in place and holding down the square button for a second will collect the nearby phantoma.

The game is straightforward with the way to get from one area to the next along with the random encounters that happen but just like in FFXII, all of the battles happen on the same screen instead of an closed area. This gives you freedom to move and use your actions wisely. I played until the boss battle and it was very tough to take it down even when I used the Ifrit summon.

The controls take some time to get used too since the game-play is entirely new from the start but there is an tutorial. Also the camera angles can get a lot crazy sometimes especially when the battles begin. The HD visuals in this game is very outstanding and this game runs at 60FPS so it is very fast from when you see it for yourselves.

I was also told that this will be the darkest Final Fantasy video game to be ever released so I have more interest in this game now.

Expect this game to release in March 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one. This game will also come with an demo for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.
