The Walking Dead Season 10, Episode 11 “Morning Star” Recap

Since the mid-season premiere, we witnessed a dark and tight-spaced cave, Beta auditioning to be Michael Myers, and “that” Negan and Alpha scene that got everyone talking. The Whisperers are beginning to bring the war to the communities and tonight’s episode, we see how the group will prepare for it. Here is my recap of “Morning Star.”

Beta is cutting the center of the tree to see if sap can be poured. We also see that he has done this to the other trees in that area. Negan is with Alpha and he asks if there will be more “kinky Whisperer shit” going on. Alpha rolled up her sleeve and told Negan to whip her arm with the branch. Negan was puzzled at first, but Alpha told him to do it. Negan does this and when he finishes, Alpha does the same to his arm. There are a mix of walkers from Alpha’s horde and Whisperers walking and Alpha and Beta are doing the “end of the world/we take them all” chant. We also see that Negan has a Whisperer mask now.

Eugene is talking to Stephanie over the radio and Stephanie mentions that she seen the satellite crashing down not too long ago. Stephanie also says that they must be close since she seen it. Eugene told her that they are in Virginia and asked Stephanie when they should meet. Stephanie replied by telling him that she wants to meet him too, but she will have to talk to her group about it first. Alden and Earl notices that Aaron and other members from Alexandria arrive and they both see that they brought Mary with them (their first time seeing her unmasked). Aaron told Earl and Alden who she was, and they both agree that she does not belong there regardless that her nephew is there. It is clear here that Earl does not trust her. Carol is at Daryl’s old camp site and Ezekiel visits her. They talk about the cave and Ezekiel is worried about her. He even says that they could stay there all day and talk even if they are being bit by mosquitos.

Kelly tells Luke that she does not want to leave Connie out there and Yumiko told Kelly that she thinks that they are both dead. While Kelly is not trying to hear that, Daryl and Judith arrives to Hilltop in his motorcycle. Daryl told Yumiko that they did not get far and Lydia said that they cannot go back out there because Alpha is coming.

Rosita enters the attic of Hilltop where the radio equipment is there and hears Stephanie’s voice. Rosita asks who it is and while she is doing this, Eugene climbs down the ladder and tried to respond to Stephanie. Eugene did not expect Rosita to come to him since he was told that nobody should know about this. Eugene commented on Rosita’s wounds as she said that she fought a Whisperer (she did not name him (Beta). Eugene told Rosita to leave before he says something that he will regret. Eugene apologized to Stephanie over the radio, but she did not respond. Alpha and Negan are alone again and Negan tells Alpha that she does not need to attack just yet as he believes that they will join her side. At the meeting at Hilltop, They all debate on whether if they should leave or stay to fight. Earl believes that they should fight and Lydia lets them all know that Alpha’s horde will not go around Hilltop, but through the front. Daryl told everyone to get all of the children away from Hilltop and take them to Oceanside. They do exactly that (including getting RJ out of there) and Judith wanted to stay and battle and Daryl told Judith that he will not allow her to stay. While they were on their way to Oceanside, there is a road block with a walker hanging on the tree on the side of the road block. Daryl figures out that Negan did this and that he is with Alpha now.

Daryl and the rest goes back to Hilltop to tell them about the road block and Kelly says that they cannot stay there at all. Luke wanted to call Alexandria and Hilltop for help, but Earl not only riles everyone up for war, but also lets them know that the communities cannot help them and that they would not get there in time. While Ezekiel is getting his armor, Carol enters the room. She sees that he has the lump on his neck and even told him the line that he told her when they had their first long conversation (“Never bullshit a bullshitter”). He told her about the tumor and they both kiss. Mary finally got the chance to see her nephew, but Alden interrups her and told her that she cannot see her nephew. Aaron told Alden that she would not be dangerous, but Alden told Aaron that it is not a good idea for her to be there with her nephew due to the fact that Earl raised him since her sister left him there. After Carol and Ezekiel had sex, they have a heart to heart as Ezekiel told Carol that she has lost herself and her sense of humor. Ezekiel also brings up losing his pride and asked if they would have done it if he did not think that he was going to die tonight. Carol’s humor side comes out at that moment with the way she replied to him.

While Eugene was checking for the power, Rosita arrives (Side note, everyone is appearing out of nowhere in this episode for some reason). She was worried on how close Beta would have gotten to kill her and talked about Stephanie. Rosita then asked Eugene if he wanted to kiss her. Eugene leaned over and almost did, but he pulled back. They both come to realize that they do not want to give what The Whisperers want and that is, them in fear. Eugene however, kissed her on her cheek. Lydia looks at the heart sign of “H+L” that she made and Carol has a conversation with her about Alpha and about Carol hating herself and about people not telling the truth anymore. Lydia also feels very loney and depressed too. Everyone else is making electric barricades and Yumiko apologized to Kelly for what she said earlier and they hug. Then, a swarm of rats are running from the bushes and that signaled that the horde is coming. Eugene is singing “The Wild Wind Blows” by Iron Maiden while a montage of everyone getting ready for war is shown. Stephanie replies by singing the rest of the song. Stephanie and Eugene also talk about Rosita and Eugene calls Rosita his BFF. Then out of nowhere, Stephanie told Eugene that they are in West Virginia and to arrive at the train yard within the next week. Ezekiel and Daryl talk for a brief moment and Ezekiel reveals to Daryl that he has cancer and Daryl told him that despite them not talking that much, he understands what they are going through. They both made a pact in which if one of them goes down, the other gets the children. Judith talks about Rick Grimes and what would he have done if he was still around. She also fixes the right wing on Daryl’s vest and Daryl loves it. Daryl told Judith if he gets lost, for her and RJ to go to Ezekiel and she promises that she will.

Carol looks at the portaits of the Greene family and Daryl is looking down on Glenn’s grave. Daryl also told Carol that he will never hate her as they patched things up. At night, Daryl picks up the morning star chain weapon and everyone is positioned for battle as Aaron leads the militia. The horde and Whisperers arrive and the walkers begin to break through the electric fence. Aaron ordered the group to be split in two for both sides of the inner fence as the walkers are beginning to walk towards the thick barbed wire. The arrows from everyone else behind the shield are being shot at walkers and everyone else in the front begins to take down walkers. This continued for a few more minutes until Beta begins launching the sap bombs at the militia. One person of the militia was burned to death as they all figured out that it was flammable. Alpha gets the fire ready and Negan told her that he thought that she was going top make them join them. Alpha replies that they will literally join them as walkers and Negan thought that it was “bad ass.” Alpha readies the flaming arrows for everyone to launch and Negan even joined this. The walkers break through the thick barbed wire and Daryl told everyone to retreat since there are way too many. As they were retreating, the fire arrows that were launched from The Whisperers’ side made it to the entrance of Hilltop and everything in the front was set on fire. The episode ends as Daryl and everyone else has nowhere to go but fight the horde as the fire is behind them.

This episode reminded me of the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones where the buildup is for 80% of the episode and the other 20% of the episode is a small taste of the battle which means the episode after this one will be the full scale battle. With that aside, this is an excellent episode and there were many callbacks to earlier seasons such as the road block caused by Negan, that line Ezekiel said to Carol in early season 7 is now being said by Carol to Ezekiel, and how Daryl stared at the graves before war just like Rick did. My favorite interractions on this episode were Ezekiel and Carol as they both come to terms that they are more of themselves and not just people who are queen and king at The Kingdom. Their conversations were down to earth and I love it. Also, bonus points for Daryl and Carol not hating eachother and I am sure that the “Caryl” fans will love that too.

Carol’s scene with Lydia is some of the best dialouge of the entire season as it felt more like watching a mom and daughter have a heart to heart. Now for the start of the battle, that last 10 minutes was extremely planned well and it gave us a taste of the chaos of The Whisperer War. I also thought that it was smart for Beta to use the tree sap bombs first before everyone else launching the fire arrows. That was a slight not to not only the comic series as The Hilltop was burned top the ground by fire arrows, but to also a trick used during World War 1. I am however a bit puzzled to why the meeting location of The Commonwealth is changed from the comics as in the comics, it was in Ohio and now on the television series, it is in West Virginia. There were many scenes from the comic that were adapted, and remixed for this episode that I enjoyed and I cannot wait for the next episode!

The Walking Dead: World Beyond to Make Their Debut at WonderCon 2020

For the last few years, Fear The Walking Dead has had a panel at Wonder Con with the cast and crew taking the stage to talk about the season. This year, there will be a change as AMC will not bring Fear The Walking Dead to WonderCon this year. Taking Fear’s place at WonderCon will be the second spinoff series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

World Beyond is a limited series that takes place ten years into the apocalypse in Nebraska. The series will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse along with more members of the communituy that they are all in. The walkers in this series is referred to as “empties” and there is a reason that they are referred to that as we will all find that out on the first episode.

One of the main drawing points of the series is that the CRM Helicopter group that has taken Rick Grimes, and Heath, and traded more people for supplies will be heavily featured on this mini series. CRM has connected the main show and Fear in the past and it seems like World Beyond will be the series to not only be the third connection to bring every series in the franchise together, but to also lead in to the Untitled Walking Dead Rick Grimes’ movies as well. I believe some those questions will be addressed at WonderCon. As far as Fear The Walking Dead goes, I believe the next time everyone will see the cast and the debut trailer will be sometime before San Diego Comic Con season!

No details have been revealed yet on which cast members will be in attendance at the panel along with which day the panel will take place, but AMC and WonderCon will release that information weeks before WonderCon begins.

C2E2 2020 Recap

Chicago is always a great place to visit every year no matter if it is windy or not. The weather will go right out the way once you make your way to the Mccormick Convention Center for C2E2. C2E2 is the biggest comic and entertainment convention in Chicago and it will keep on getting bigger for the years to come. C2E2 this year was clearly celebrated during the three day show whether if it was a panel, or fan meetup, screening, cosplay, and gaming, you name it. I have seen it all over my three days over there and here is my recap of this year’s edition of C2E2.

Last year, it was revealed that the 2020 edition of C2E2 that it would take place on Feburary of 2020. This was the first time that this has happened for C2E2 and there was a large number of attendees that was concerned due to the weather or the fear of a snowstorm. Another concern is the recent news of the corona virus that has spreaded in the east. But none of those concerns stopped anyone from coming and the convention center was full of attendees from the first day, until the last day.

There are a few changes that I noticed this year as there was a large area that was named “The Yard” at the middle of the convention center. At this area, attendees could relax over at that area, play games, and the ocassional music in that area. The second big change is the gaming zone as it featured more of a variety of video games other than the retro and current consoles. There was a huge number of arcade cabinents and I have not seen that for C2E2 until this year.

In my opinion, these two major changes really benefitted for every person inside the convention center especially The Yard as there was no more need to stand around at the walls of the center to sit and rest for a few minutes.

Also at The Yard, I witnessed a Super Mario Bros. 3 speedrun and I have never seen a speedrun done in person before and I was amazed.

The cosplay I have seen this year was very great and the most I have seen this year was Star Wars related. This ranged from The Mandalorian, “The Child” (Baby Yoda), Rey, and Kylo Ren. There are other good ones I have seen too and it amazes me how much efford everyone puts into their costumes for this weekend especially since C2E2 is the home for the Crown Championship of Cosplay.

There were also a cosplay group that cosplayed every member of the Stark House of Game of Thrones and this was also pretty cool to see Richard Brake take a photo with them. Speaking of him, I interviewed Richard Brake for a few minutes at C2E2 to get some more insight of his memories of Game of Thrones.

I was only able to attend three panels during C2E2 weekend and I wanted to attend the Mark Ruffalo panel, but the entire room was capped before I woke up. But I attended the All Elite Wrestling, Jason David Frank Spotlight, and Stephen Amell/Emily Bett Rickards panels. For AEW, we learned more about what can we expect for the future of AEW and some never before heard stories about the pre-planning of AEW Double or Nothing, All Out, and even the action figures.

The Arrow panel was a farewell to the series as both stars shared their favorite memories of the series and some stories of what they wanted in crossovers if it were to happen. On Jason David Frank’s spotlight panel, Jason Faunt made a surprise appearence and made an announcement that Power Rangers: Time Force will have a sequel and that will happen on the BOOM Studios’ Power Rangers comic book series sometime this year. These panels were fun to attend an I felt that it was worth going to.

And just for amusement, Here is Stephen Amell taking a sip of coffee!

C2E2 was very fun this year and I am happy that next year’s show will take place in late March which means the weather will be much better this time around.

The Walking Dead Season 10, Episode 10 “Stalker” Recap

Seth Gilliam as Father Gabriel Stokes, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa, Kenric Green as Scott, Lindsley Register as Laura – The Walking Dead _ Season 10, Episode 10 – Photo Credit: Bob Mahoney/AMC

Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead showed us that no matter what obsticle is in the way, you fight and you will make it through. But not everyone made it through as Magna and Connie’s fates are unknown at this time. While everything with the cave along with Negan and Alpha cuddling in the forest, we get to see what is going on with everyone at Alexandria. Here is my recap and review of “Stalker.”

Beta enters the RV where a few Whisperers are stationed at and they open the bottom of the RV to jump inside the hole. It is a tunnel. Beta then turns on the lantern and begins walking. Rosita is with Coco and she lays her to rest. She then goes to the bathroom to get a cloth and as the camera panned back to her, we see a Whisperer ready to stab Coco. Rosita wakes up as it was just a dream. Gabriel then alerted Rosita that Gamma has arrived. Gamma is at the gates of Alexandria and everyone stops her as she took off her mask and told everyone that she knows where the horde is. Gabriel does not believe her at first, but Gamma told him that Alpha moved the horde to a cave. Gamma wants to help because her nephew is at Hilltop and Gabriel told Gamma that he would give her a map in exchange of the location of the cave. As Gabriel told them to put Gamma in the cell, Rosita punched her right in her face as she fell. Daryl is hiding from a few Whisperers while also waiting to attack. That Whisperer picks up the crossbow bolts as Daryl was about to attack, but Alpha emerges from the cave and she also brings out a number of walkers from that cave as well.

Gamma wakes up in the cell and Gabriel with Rosita visits her. Gabriel told her that the last Whisperer that was there, he killed him. Gabriel wants Gamma to convince him that she is not lying and that she would die right where she stands if she does lie. Gamma told them both her story and Gabriel does not believe her. Gamma then told Gabriel that she killed her sister for Alpha and then Gabriel begins to believe her. At the pond of the camp, Alpha is with a few walkers and Whisperers and one Whisperer behind Alpha was struck by an unseen attacker. That Whisperer falls and a walker devours him. Alpha and the two other Whisperers are across the pond and moments later, Daryl kills one Whisperer, punches Alpha, and kills the other Whisperer by stabbing them. Alpha is knocked down and the fight begins as Alpha slashed Daryl on his head and Daryl was bleeding heavily. The blood also affected his vision, but he managed to hit her with a log to knock her down and ask her if she knows where Magna and Connie are. Walkers are approaching. Daryl took some down and missed a few, but Alpha also got up and stabbed Daryl right in his thigh with her knife.

Gabriel, Laura, Rosita, and Scott have a council meeting after Gabe gives Gamma the map. Rosita and Sean thinks that it is not right to trust Gamma and Gabriel believes that she is telling the truth. Gabriel then told them that they should not be afraid of them at all and that he brought Gamma there to prove that they are cowards. Gabriel also thinks that they all completly broke Gamma and that he wants to do the same to anyone else. At an abandoned gas station, Alpha tracks Daryl down due to the blood drops he has made that allowed her to do so. Daryl is hiding at the end of the station and he grabs a metal pipe. Alpha observes the area and then proceeded to bang on the wall with her shotgun to attract walkers. Rosita and Gabriel have an argument over what he said at the council meeting and Rosita brought up that Coco is wondering where Siddiq is. Judith speaks with Gamma from outside the cell and Gamma told Judith her birthname and that she was from California. But she however does not remember much of her upbringing. Judith does not think that Gamma is a monster and Rosita then tells Judith to leave.

Alpha is still alerting walkers and three of them arrive and one of them stared at Alpha. Daryl killed those walkers although, he had trouble killing the last one. He took the knife out of his tigh and the blood leaked out like a faucet of water. Everyone is getting ready to patrol the area and Gabriel told Rosita and Laura to stay to watch the area. Gabriel then kissed Rosita and told her that he will see her soon. At night, Beta rises from Cheryl’s grave and begins his infiltration inside Alexandria. In one of the houses, Alfred was talking with another resident and when the camera changed the view, Beta was seen for a split second before the lights got cut off. Beta then begins to slice and kill every resident in that house and another house. Everyone that was killed is beginning to turn and Gabriel found a few dead bodies as well and alerted Laura and Rosita to be on the lookout. Beta is at the cell to get Gamma out. Gamma told Beta that she is not afraid of him and that she would yell for help. Beta orders Gamma to come with her. Before he can continue, Laura points her spear at Beta and told Gamma to call for help. Beta and Laura then have a small fight and Beta killed Laura by slammimng her neck across the cell bars. Gamma called for help, but Beta is already at Rosita’s house. Judith shoots Beta from one of the locked doors in another room and we for a moment thought that he was dead, but he gets up like Michael Myers and trips Gamma down. Beta and Rosita then had a fight and Beta slashed Rosita’s arms. As Beta was about to kill Rosita, Gamma put one of Beta’s knives on her neck and told him that she would kill herself if he killed Rosita. Gamma then said that Alpha needs her alive and told Beta to come to her. Beta did this. While they were walking in the forest to head back to Alpha, Gabriel and Alexandria residents attempted to ambush Beta by shooting him, but he got away. Gamma told Gabriel that she is on his side and that she did not know that he was coming.

At night, Alpha takes her mask off and is getting weaker each second as her and Daryl talk about Lydia. Alpha then passes out as she is crawling towards Daryl and then Lydia appears with Daryl’s crossbow. Alpha wants Lydia to kill her and Lydia refuses and lets her go. In the morning, Alpha wakes up and is in pain and is looking for Lydia. She reads a message that Lydia on the counter that says “YOUR WAY IS NOT THE ONLY WAY” as she grabs her knife. Meanwhile, Aaron arrives at Alexandria and alerts Gabriel of what is going on. Gabriel is then talking with Rosita as they are about to head to Hilltop. Gamma also told Rosita that her name is Mary and they are all leaving. Daryl also wakes up as Lydia was watching over him. Daryl asked Lydia if she killed her mom and she told him that she did not. The episode ends as a few Whisperers surround Alpha as they came to her aide and she looks up to the sky to do her “We are the end of the world” chant.

I love this episode and I also like it even more than the previous episode. Ryan Hurst knocked it right out of the park and it felt like I was watching a Halloween film. I also love the scene where Beta and Gamma was going back and forth especially when he tried to get her out of the cell for him to take her to Alpha and then later in the episode, Gamma then did the same exact thing as Beta was about to kill Rosita. Reverse psychology at its finest. I also thought the Gabriel scenes were very well done as Negan’s advice is that really starting to get into Gabriel’s head. And kudos to Judith for shooting Beta too. And I felt bad for Laura because Lindsley Register is an underrated actress and it would be sad to see her go.

Every scene with Alpha and Daryl was great too and Lydia being in the middle of all of this made the scene with her and Alpha very sad, but yet also very good. And I will give a good praise to the VFX team for making Daryl’s vision get drastically affected due to the blood pouring over his eyes. There is a lot of suspense and action on this episode and I would fully recommend it!
